Cover plants in second crop: nutrients in straw and cotton yield in succession

ABSTRACT The cultivation of cover plants is a strategy for improving the agricultural production environment and providing straw soil in no-tillage system, addition to cycling nutrients succeeding crops. This study aimed assess dry matter yield accumulation by grown alone or intercropped second crop after soybean their effects on cotton succession. treatments were: Urochloa ruziziensis; Pennisetum glaucum (millet); Zea mays (corn); Crotalaria spectabilis; ochroleuca; Cajanus cajan (pigeon pea); corn + U. C. spectabilis ochroleuca pigeon pea pea. experimental design consisted randomized blocks, with four replications, experiment was carried out two seasons. In pre-seeding, maximum amount 2,699 kg ha-1, low macronutrient contents. ruziziensis produced between 8,400 12,941 ha-1 matter, content 223 323 nitrogen potassium, respectively. ruziziensis, intercropped, provided 140 potassium straw. A high obtained system succession spectabilis.
